At Africa Alive, we’re proud to play an important role in international and European breeding programmes that help protect the future of endangered species.

From lemurs to aardvarks, our conservation work supports a wide range of animals. With 80+ programmes across Africa Alive and Banham Zoo, every visit helps contribute to a healthier, more secure future for wildlife around the world.

Turtle Dove Restoration Project

Turtle Doves (Streptopeliaturtur) are one of the UK’s most threatened bird species, with numbers declining due to habitat loss. ZSEA is collaborating with the RSPB through Operation Turtle Dove to enhance suitable habitats at Banham Zoo and Africa Alive.

By planting wildflower meadows that attract these migratory birds, the project aims to encourage breeding and contribute to their conservation.

Conservation is a shared effort, and we can’t achieve our goals alone. With the support of our partners and supporters, we work alongside conservation organisations and communities to protect endangered species, restore vital habitats, and fund education programmes that inspire future conservationists.
